This is an effort by the RBZ to tackle extreme hyper-inflation, which is running at 2.2m% officially, while in reality it is closer to 20m%, as well as due to the fact that there is no more paper in Zimbabwe to print new money. (The "new" currency was actually printed in 2007.)The reason for this is that the German company that supplies the RBZ with the paper to print these notes has recently announced that it will no longer supply the Zimbabwe government with paper due to the recent elections and their shocking economic policies.
