Description
XXXRARE br.plaquette by Blin, ca.1920: Victory of Samothrace (starting price: USD $39.99 NO RESERVE) During Summer Time, as I'm very confident in Future and also as the (serious) Numismatics Market showed by the past it was able to cross over hard times with serenity, I decided to offer for sale 3 to 5 very good pieces, every day (fully described, pictured, catalogued and guarantied ORIGINAL as everything I sell) at the same hour as usual and at very affordable starting prices! And also as always : with your purchases, you'll receive a Paid Bill/Certificate of Guaranty. As usual, you'll find also my SunDay Sales every SunDay! Thanks so much for your attention and for your interest always, and Have a Great and Beautiful Summer! Obv/ Victory of Samothrace (Antique Goddess, Nike) within a background of laurel leaves. In the exergue: QVOVIS.CUM.VULNERE.VICTRIX. Signed on the right corner : E.Blin d'apres l'Antique (After Antique) Rev/ A Lady is seated left under a tree, dreaming as on the background we can see the Parthenon. In the exergue : ME.MINIT.PATRIA. Within a cartouche, there is the name of the Awarded : Mme Souillard. Association Generale des Mutiles de la Guerre (Association of War Wounded Veterans). Information and bibliography: This RARE bronze plaquette was engraved by Edouard-Pierre Blin (1877-1946). He was pupil to Chaplain, Peter and Bottee. He exhibited at the Salon of the Société des Artistes francais and received his first award, an honorable mention, in 1908. He received a bronze medal in 1911, a silver medal in 1921 and a gold medal in 1933. Blin was made a Chevalier of the Legion of Honor in 1934 and received a gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in 1937. A bit more about this plaquette : the " Victory of Samothrace" which has been represented by Blin is really full of movement and it is not like a kind of "Copy after the Antique Greece", it is a bit more! Somewhere between Ancient Greek Art and a coming Art Deco! such plaquettes were only Awarded to Veterans who were wounded during WW I. They are quite rare to find. Comment: This RARE bronze plaquette is not very often offered for sale.. it is a great and beautiful plaquette which is missing to many advanced Art Nouveau Collections. It is in a very nice condition with a light brown patina. It is still in its Original Box (but please note that this box is in a really poor condition : broken and dirty but..it made a good job: the palquette is still fine!!).This plaquette is Certified and Guarantied ORIGINAL. Like with everything we sell, you'll receive a Paid Bill/Certificate of Authenticity. On the edge: " Bronze " and a mark: " a triangle" (jeweller mark of the first part of the 20th Century). This plaquette is NOT A RESTRIKE and was struck ca. 1920 at the end of WW I. est. $200/250 & NO RESERVE My NO RESERVE SALES are my way to thank you for trusting my eBay Business, Merci Beaucoup !
