As a legend, it reads : "Elu par l'Assemblee Nationale le 27 Juin 1894" (He was Elected by the National Assembly on June 27th, 1894). Signed "J-C. Chaplain" in the exergue) Rev/ Bust of Casimir Perier to the left. As a legend, it reads: "Casimir Perier President de la Republique Francaise" (This is an Official Inauguration Medal for the President, in 1894). Signed "J-C. Chaplain 1894" in the exergue) Information and bibliography: This bronze medal (This is an Official Inauguration Medal for the President, in 1894) was engraved by Jules-Clément Chaplain (1839-1909). He entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1857, studying sculpture under Jouffroy and medals under Oudine. In 1863 he received the Grand Prix de Rome for medal-engraving and worked in Rome from 1864 to 1868. He exhibited regularly at the Salon from 1863. Chaplain received a first-class medal in 1878. In 1881 his status as one of the leading French medallists was recognized by his election to the Academie des Beaux-Arts. In 1895 he was selected for the position of Art Director at the Sèvres Manufactory. Chaplain was created Commander of the Legion of Honor in 1900. This medal is also in a very nice condition with a light brown patina (there is a very minor rim nick (or assayer marks at 9:00/Obv.). On the edge : " Bronze" and an edge mark: a " cornucopia".
