Sharp!' Description Undated [circa 1815-1820?] Washington Double Head Cent. Baker 6, Breen 1204, Fuld WA.NC.1783.24. Rarity-1. 117.9 grains. Very Fine or nearly there, a cleanly circulated example. Nicely struck, the central busts on either side fully outlined, each showing some finer detail, the one on the WASHINGTON side stronger, though that side has two light marks. The simple legends of WASHINGTON and ONE CENT are sharp. Medium chocolate, the surfaces pleasing for a circulated coin, with the minimum of light handling marks as expected for a piece that was clearly used in commerce. While one of the more available of the “colonial-era” Washington pieces, circulated examples are often damaged or otherwise unattractive…this is nicer than some we have seen that were technically a grade higher. Interestingly, the dies show no breaks, unusual for a piece that must have had a fairly large mintage. Perfect for the collector on a budget.
