One or both sides of a coin were ground smooth, allowing the engraver to decorate the flat sides with initials, names, pictorial scenes, dates or tokens of love. Often, the token was given to a sweetheart in times of war as a gesture of remembrance and love or to commemorate a birthday, anniversary or death.{ABOUT THE CHARM }This love token was made from a coin — ground down on both sides revealing the edge only. Both sides are hand-engraved with fluid calligraphy and Victorian artistry. On what I call the front are the initials KN, engraved with curly type and added flourishes. The reverse side is engraved in the same style as the front, Dec 2nd, 1894. Just beautiful!Measures the size of a dime at 11/16" in diameter, not including top loop or jump ring, and weighs 1.3 grams.Perfect to hang on a bracelet of Victorian love tokens or alone on a neck chain.
