Description
Unc Lesher House Restoration Souvenir “Dollar” Lesher House silver souvenir dollar issued in 1985 with original holder of issue. Issued by the A.N.A. – “No. 123” In the early1980s Q. David Bowers purchased the house in Victor, Colorado where Joseph Lesher lived while he promoted his Referendum Dollars between 1900-1901. Following his purchase, Bowers presented the deed to the American Numismatic Association. During 1985, in order to finance the restoration of the home, the ANA had struck 1,000 silver replica’s of the “Referendum Dollar” originally coined in 1900 by Joseph Lesher. The obverse of the octagonal, 35 x 35mm, silver souvenir dollar faithfully reproduces the second reverse variety of the original Bumstead type of Lesher Dollars. The reverse depicts Lesher’s home with Pike’s Peak serving as the backdrop. The inscription “RECEIPT IN SUPPORT LESHER HOUSE RESTORATION AT VICTOR, COLORADO, NO. ___” completes the design. The number “123” is stamped into the coin, being number 123 of 1,000 pieces struck. There is no mention of the American Numismatic Association on the medal itself. The original holder, 2 5/8 x 3 5/8 inches, which accompanies this example, states: “Lesher House Restoration Project, American Numismatic Association, 818 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80903-327 above and “This sterling silver medal, issued to preserve and restore the historic Lesher House at Victor, Colorado, is a replica of the “referendum dollar” coined by Joseph Lesher in 1900.” below. Choice Uncirculated, a thumb print is visible on the coin, from the ANA’s coiner – Colorado Badge and Trophy Co., as this example is as ordered and received in 1985 by this seller.                                          I’ve seen these offered without the original case – but this one is complete and certainly a prize for the Lesher Dollar or So-Called Dollar SCD collector.   Take a close look at the photographs and please feel free to contact us with any questions.   Please be sure to check our complete list of items currently on eBay.   Offered at No Reserve with an opening bid of 99 cents.     SHIPPING, INSURANCE, MICHIGAN SALES TAX AND TERMS OF SALE PLEASE READ CAREFULLY $5.00 shipping/insurance & handling charge will be added to the final selling price of this item to US destinations ONLY.
