Description
As most of our customers over the past 29 years are aware, we are historians first, ebay sales people well....not even second, say third or so. We have developed and produced some 300 books and written and/or edited a few dozen in that period of time. Our specialties focus on American history, but we can't resist expanding into other areas, including archaeology and ancient history. Hence we've begun offering ancient coins. We preface with the facts that we only trade with thoe with expertise and with the finest reputations. We have to rely on these folks whereas we rely on ourselves when it comes to Americana and American coins andhistory. If you have questions or feel we have misspoken in any way in regards to ancients, please let us know. This is an outstanding Greek tetradrachm of Ptolemy I from 125-60 BC with a very dramatic reverse of a standing eagle much like the ones seen on similar period and denomination coins and including Roman pieces found in Israel in the time of Christ. The coin is as you see it and we are not expert in grading Roman and Greek coinage which does not have a numeric scale such as that used on American coinage. The design is sharp both obverse and reverse and the condition is quite nice although it clearly shows use and some moderate wear. The silver piece weighs 12.75 grams (just about 41% of a troy ounce) and measures 23.8mm north to south and 23.1mm east to west. You can see with the naked eye that it is slightly oval vertically. Thanks very much for looking. OTHER AUCTIONS ON EBAY: We have a nice group of high grade Civil War tokens, World's Columbian tokens/medals/paper items; So-Called Dollars; 19th century political tokens and much more we've begun to list over the last two week. We're also just sending out our Customer newsletter, Summer edition, 26 pages long and including items for sale as well. The newsletter automatically is sent to current customers and is mailed along with each winning bidder's items. If you would like a copy with information on token and medal rarities and other news this issue, just send us your mailing address. Thanks for looking! SHIPPING: All of our lots are a flat $3.00 for first-class shipping and we combine to save the buyer shipping costs. INSURANCE: Insurance is optional but without it obviously the buyer is at risk should anything be lost or damaged in shipping. Insurance in the ebay system requires only one number, so it is listed at $1.65, the starting price from USPS. Up to $50-$1.65 $50-$100-$2.05 $100-$200-$2.45 $200-$300-$4.60 $300-$400-$5.50 METHODS OF PAYMENT: We accept checks and money orders (personal, bank or business checks are just fine) but we do NOT use PayPal. FEEDBACK. We will always leave feedback, although we generally do many at once so we do not do it every day. Please be patient. If you have questions on our other ebay listings please ask. We've been on ebay almost 10 years and in business since 1979. We strive to ensure that every customer is happy; that's not possible, but please see our feedback rating--more than 4,000 positives. Thanks very much.
