Description
This is an "authentic," coin silver, one yen, Japanese coin, it is a 38mm, same size as our American silver dollar was. A pretty piece, and in excellent condition. Thankyou for looking. Paypal, free shipping. I received an email from another ebayer, that the coin is fake, I am not sure, as I am not a coin collector. It is marked with 900, which generally bespeaks coin silver. There also is stamped the number 416 on it. I am lowering the price, because I do not wish to take advantage of anyone, but I would like to know if there ever was a coin like that in use in Japan at any time in the past. Anyone who can help me, I would greatly appreciate any imput. Thankyou. I have received a response to my question about this coin. Since I do not know how to get that note from my messages, ebay to this site, I am going to type it out here! Yes, this coin has been used in the past. The number 416 on the coin literally refer that the coin is made of 416 grains of silver. The 900 literally means that the coin is 900 purity. It was use during the Meiji era (45 years reign of emperor Meiji from 1868-1912). His real name is Mutsuhito. He's consider the best emperor of Japan. He restore the power back to the imperial familly of Japan by defeating the shogun. Shogun are military group of Japan (similar to a samurai), who strip the power of the previous emperor more than 100 years befor the emperor Meiji came to power. Meiji made Japan one of the prosperous country in the world by entering world affair and trade (notes: Japan has been isolated from the world for more than 1000 years). On the back of the coin there's a chrysanthemum with 16 petals (the symbol of the imperial family of Japan). The coin I have listed is after 1900, and if it it authentic, it's cost would be $35.-$50.
