Description
PIETILA store Scarce XF+ $50.00 Jan 14 1779 Continental/Colonial Note Scarce $50.00 1779 Continental/Colonial Note in higher grade. Couple of tiny pin holes and a light centerfold, otherwise choice for the grade. No tears, no holes, no restoration attempts, nor any other problems. Furthermore, this note is signed by John Williams, a Colonel in the Revolutionary War and a member of the Continental Congress from North Carolina in 1778 & 1779. Do a Goggle search on his name, or see WIKIPEDIA's site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Williams_(delegate) for further biographical information. The serial number 85770 of this note is clear, as is the other signature above Williams - that of John Read in light red ink. Embedded thick blue threads and watermarked paper "CONFEDE RATION" (see last photo) on two lines when held upto a light source, were both used as anti-counterfeiting devices. An original and genuine example of our early monetary history. Purchased from an old estate a few years ago. Successful bidder shall pay $6.85 for insured 1st Class USPS shipping/handling.
