Description
This is a very rare issued uncancled stock certificate for the Picacho Basin Mining Company dated Sept 9, 1908. This is one stock I really hate to let it go, but I need to narrow my collection down to specific areas of personal interest. I have never seen another stock for sale from this mining district. Today Picacho Basin is a California State Park with hiking trails, like the Picacho Mills Historic Trail. The Picacho Mining District is located in Imperial County 20 miles north of Yuma Arizona, with the Colorado River on the north side of the district. The area was first mined by the Spaniards as early as 1780 and they named the area after the nearby Picacho Peak. According to the Calif. Div. Of Mines; "The "Picacho" or "Picacho Basin Mine" was the largest source of gold in the district, was worked on a large scale from 1904 to 1910. The reported output was $2 million. During this operation the ore was treated in a mill near the Colorado River. The mine was sampled in the 1930's, but there has been only minor prospecting in the district since, and the site of the old town of Picacho on the river was recently made into a state recreation area". This is a rare document from California's Mining history. Shipping is via USPS Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation.
