C 6 (see photos) (estimate of actual age: 9-11th c.)   The term Dvaravati derives from coins which were inscribed in Sanskrit with śrī dvāravatī. The Sanskrit word dvāravatī means "she with many gates " (from dvar "door gate"). The Dvaravati Kingdom was located in the central area of the Chao Phraya River basin – in the area now known as Nakhon Pathom Province. In that era, gold and silver coins with symbols were used as money . Dvaravati gold and silver coins are distinguished by a unique image of a conch shell on the obverse. The reverse was struck with an image of the temple, Sri Vatsa, a thunderbolt, a whip, an elephant hook, and the sun and crescent moon at the top and a fish or wavy lines at the bottom. The Dvaravati kingdom of early Siam existed from the 6th to the 11th centuries. The Kingdom was then absorbed by the growing Lavo and Suvarnabhumi kingdoms. The people of the kingdom used the ancient Mon language, but whether they were ethnically Mon is unknown. There is evidence that this kingdom may have had more than one race, including Chinese, Malays and Khmer. Little is known about the administration of the kingdom, or even whether it was technically a kingdom at all. It may simply have been a loose gathering of principalities rather than a centralised state. The main settlements appear to have been at Nakhon Pathom, U Thong and Khu Bua west of the Chao Phraya river. Other towns like Lavo (modern-day Lopburi) or Si Thep were also clearly influenced by the Dvaravati culture, but probably were not part of the kingdom. The Dvaravati were heavily influenced by Indian culture, and played an important role in introducing Buddhism and particularly Buddhist art to the region. Another group of coins with Mon influence were minted with a Sanskrit inscription on the obverse, and on the reverse an image of a cow and a calf, a water pot, a Dharma wheel, a conch shell and a deer. Symbols on Dvarivati coins reflected mainly Gandharan Buddhist beliefs.
