A. Gowan in Script that is both Contemporary with the period but that includes Floral engraving that looks to me to utilise Gum Tree Leaves across the top of the reverse. If you look carefully- just after the "E" there is a small block letter "A" then the surname Gowan. As I do not know how to access convict files and census records- I cannot say whether the owner was a convict, a convict's wife or lover or a landed free person. I can say this was bought in a Provincial farming town in South East Queensland by a person who told me her family had been in Australia for generations. I can ALSO say that, when Australia was settled THIS was A LOT of money- a Silver Crown for many was a month's wages EASY. With provenance this has potential to be worth THOUSANDS - into FIVE FIGURES -= even in today's "DOWN" market- WHY? Because these are RARE - even if it was BRITISH in origin- the item is RARE- love tokens are usually sixpence or shilling coins- NOT CROWNS like this specimen.
