Description
This Potosi eight reales cob was struck in 1680 under the rule of Charles II of Spain. The coin was salvaged from an unknown shipwreck in the Seville harbour. The pillars and waves design with the date “80” in the center is featured on the obverse of the specimen; the assayer initial “V” appears in the upper right with the mintmark “P” below. The reverse cross is virtually complete with the mintmark “P” to the left and a second date “80” below. A certificate of authenticity with a photograph is included with the coin . . . a nice historic piece!! (Images may be enlarged or reduced.
