The 1906-S peso is the rarest in the series due to it being recalled by the US government and later melted down to make the 1907-S smaller sized peso. Most of them where melted down and a large majority are in damaged condition due to being thrown into the sea when the Japanese forces invaded the Philippines. Die number 2 are a little scarcer than die number 1 variety. There are many altered dates and fakes around. This one is genuine and you can examine the "1906" to make sure and look at the checklist below. How to tell if its a genuine 1906-S peso: 1) All genuine 1906-S have the straight serif "1" . But beware of a shaven curved serif 1. 2) Check the number "9". The genuine pieces have a larger and rounder knob. 3) The number "0" which the upper inner loop to the right of the 0 is straight rather than oval. 4) Check the number "6" which the knob should be slightly in a teardrop shape rather than round. There are a few other things to check but the above are the main things to look out for. Place a Bid!
