Description
Ancient Wearable Art 2,000-Year-Old Coin Pendant -- a Memorable Gift and Heirloom   A handsome collector-caliber ancient bronze coin set in a silver pendant and hung on a leather cord with hook-and-eye clasp. The coin, probably valued at two denari, was circulated in ancient Rome during A.D. 275-276. Originally this type of coin was silver, but over time was moved to bronze. A fine example, it is substantially intact and with much of its original texture and details.   The coin's front bears the image of Tacitus, the last Roman senator to be elevated to emperor by the army. Tacitus was also a historian. The surviving portions of his two major works—the Annals and the Histories—span the history of the Roman Empire from the death of Augustus in A.D.14  to A.D.96.   On the reverse side of the coin you will see Leatitia, the personification of happiness.   It is extremely difficult to find a coin of this age in this condition. Thus, this coin is quite rare and desirable. It is valuable and will appreciate over time. Indeed much of the value of the pendant rests in the coin itself.    This magnificent coin has been gently encased in a one-of-a-kind mounting designed and crafted for this particular coin and its unique time-worn contours. For this piece, silver was employed.     This pendant will keep your coin secure and allow you to enjoy it every day, then pass it on to the next generation. The design is intended to display both sides and honor the beautiful work of the ancient artist who lived two thousand years ago.   Richmond's Online represents this talented artist and would be happy to convey any questions you might have for him.   About the ArtistToday's artist who created the pendant is one Joseph Charles of Whidbey Island, Washington. With his unique pieces, he hopes to bring us closer to our ancient roots. He would like the people of today to realize their connection with those who lived thousands of years ago, where the foundation for our civilization was laid. Mr. Charles is himself a lifelong student of ancient history. This interest in turn led to collecting coins from that period -- and ultimately to incorporating his love of ancient history and coins into his metal artistry. Joseph Charles describes his work as wearable art, rather than jewelry. He strives to complement each ancient coin's style, the subject depicted, as well as the age and patina of the coin.  This beautiful pendant comes on a leather cord with metal hook-and-eye clasp, ready to be worn or placed on a chain of your choosing.
