The Treasurer’s signature is Alex Holland. The certificate was issued September 1, 1854 to James R. Steers a NYC lawyer who later endowed the Library at the City College of New York. This certificate represents a $300 investment in 1854. The certificate number is 1092 and the center vignette shows a steam locomotive . The certificate was printed by Baker & Duyckinck 158 Pearl St NY. It has been professionally framed, double matted with visible dimensions of 6” x 10”. The maximum frame dimensions are just shy of 12” x 16”. The signatures are very bold and crisp and Guaranteed Genuine. The certificate has some minor age tone and the “3” shares was enhanced with a pencil. If you look at the detail photo closely there is period pen ink at the top and bottom of the 3 but it is light in the middle. The certificate # “1092” is also written in pencil with no indication that it was ever filled out in ink. See my other auctions.
