He became Augustus on October 13, 54 upon Claudius' death. He reigned well under the advice of Seneca until he retired in 62 and the unprincipled Tigellinus became his advisor. Nero drifted into caring only for his artistic pursuits, and resentment built among serious-minded Romans until Galba, the Governor of Spain, rebelled in 68. Nero's support dissolved and he committed suicide on June 9, 68. His dying sentiments were "Qualis artifex pereo!" (roughly - "What an artist dies with me!"), and he asked that his head not be severed from his body (a wish that was granted). He was granted a sumptuous funeral, and his faithful lover Acte took the remains and buried them in a chest of porphytite marble in the Mausoleum of the Domitii (his ancesters) in Mars Field.Die alignment 0Roman coins represent incredible pieces of miniature art, handmade in metals by the best artisians of the day 2.000 years ago - and you can own these masterpieces today
