Description
This extraordinary Mexican eight reales was struck in 1789 under the rule of Charles IIII of Spain. The specimen is a high-grade transitional coin with the bust of the previous king, Charles III, on the obverse and the name of the actual king, Charles IIII, in the legend. The coin has been encapsulated and grades NGC MS 61 with mint luster on both sides. These pieces were accepted as legal tender in the United States from the War of Independence until 1857.
