Description
MORTOWN PRESENTS: Phillip AE28 of Viminacium, Thrace. (16.12gm, 28mm) Rev. Bull and Lion with goddess between. These were the legionary mascots of the colony of veterans that settled at Viminacium, and gave us these lovely coins. Ex. ANVThis type is commonly called the "provincial sestertius" because of the resemblance of the flan to sestertii from Rome. I've taken in interest in these coins as they are generally less expensive than imperial sestertii and are quite well made and interesting.
