Description
This is an UNKNOWN TIN TOKEN was found in the area of Riau Archipelago. Probably it was a token from the Malaya Sultanate, ca. 1700-1800's. Pattern : A STYLIZED BIRD. Weight 2.26 gm; Sizes 13 mm x 27 mm. From the book of "The Coins of Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei 1400-1986, by Saran Singh); in the sub-title : "TIN COCKERELS PERCHED ON RINGS" pp 243-244 (SS-20a to SS-20d); we found that : During the reign of Sultan Muhammad Jiwa Zainal Abidin Muazzam Shah (1710-1773), animal money made of tin was introduced in Kedah. This form of currency was restricted to models of the fighting cock which was perched on a number of rings attached to it's base. It is known that the fighting cock itself was worth five cents of the Spanish Dollar while each attached ring below added a further one cent to it's value. For small purchases the metal rings were broken off and used as one cent piece. A few pieces of this tin cockerel on rings were still in circulation as late as the 1850's when each ring was worth 10 pieces of the Singapore merchants One Keping Tokens. ALL ARE CLASSIFIED AS "RRR" (VERY VERY RARE) !!! From our imagination, we can give a reconstruction about this BIRD TOKEN, with three pieces of rings of three cents (SEE PICTURES). Including here : 3 pieces of rings value 3 cents (Total weight 4.01 gm; Sizes 7/10 mm x 21 mm). Average Grades Beautiful XF !! All have Exellent DARK PATINAS !!! A RARE & STRANGE TIN "STYLIZED BIRD" TOKEN FROM THE MALAYA SULANATE !! WE ONLY HAVE THIS SINGLE PIECE !! NO ONE LEFT !!  PAYMENT & SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS : (1). We accept online payments via Paypal.
