Description
Judaea BAR KOCHBA - Second Revolt - AR Temple SELA Yr 3 - Hendon 413 - Meshorer 89 Die Pair MOST COVETED OF ALL JEWISH COINS! 134/135 BC, Obv. Facade of Temple in Jerusalem with Ark of the Covenanant and Scrolls viewed from end in center of temple columns. Wavy line above. Rev. Lulav with Etrog at left - inscription - "For the Freedom of Jerusalem" The pinnacle of any collection of coins from the holy land - these Second Revolt Silver Selas are it. Massive silver coins that forever record the attempt of Bar Kochba to fend of the Roman Empire. This coin clearly shows all the letters boldy and is well centered for the type. There are some signs of cleaning by the finder in Israel as evidenced by the fine brush marks on both sides. This type sells for several thousand dollars in any grade and this example is VF-EF with complete, solid, bold legands and letters. More details can be read in Leo Mildenberg's book "The Coinage of the Bar Kokhba War" Page 164, Large Silver Die Pair #84. This coin was purchased from Khadar Baidun and Sons in Old Jerusalem. It is guarenteed authentic and I will include a copy of the original export license from the Israel Antiquities Authority. You are bidding on the coin pictured.
