Description
HOBO NICKEL The hobo nickel is a sculpural art form, involving the creative modification of small-denomination coins, essentially resulting in miniature bas relief's. The buffalo nickel, because of its size, thickness, and relative softness, was a favored coin for this purpose. Due to its low cost and portability, this medium was particularly popular among hobos, hence the name. However, the term "hobo nickel" is generic, and carvings have been made from many different denominations. See: www.hobonickels.org for more info on Hobo Nickels. For your consideration: Viking 1937 Buffalo Nickel with an Obverse side Hand Engraving of a "Viking". The horns are 24k inlay and Copper inlay robe clasp. Coin is in a black ring airtite holder with a hardwood display. I have signed the coin on the edge/rim, "SDC". Thank you for your interest in my work, Stephen D.
