It is the 2nd largest island in the world, behind only Australia, a continent. Greenland was discovered and 1st settled by noted explorer Eric the Red in 986. Eric the Red was the father of Leif Ericson, who many believe was ACTUALLY the discoverer of America in VINLAND, now modern day NEWFOUNDLAND- in 1003. Greenland became a Danish colony in 1721, and currently is part of Denmark, with home rule since 1979. ALL coinage of Greenland was WITHDRAWN FROM CIRCULATION on July 1st, 1967, with most of it MELTED DOWN. As a result, coinage from Greenland is UNCOMMON, AND UNDERVALUED in Krause. This coin is a 1 Krone, dated 1926. It is about the size of a half dollar, in aluminum bronze, and is a ONE YEAR TYPE. It had a VERY LOW ORIGINAL MINTAGE of ONLY 286,982, but most of those are ALREADY MELTED DOWN. It features a Polar Bear, an ENDANGERED SPECIES, on the reverse, and the Crowned Danish Coat of Arms on the obverse. This coin is in excellent condition, with only LIGHT honest even wear, and NO PROBLEMS. It has GREAT DETAIL REMAINING, as you can see by the pictures. This coin is BARGAIN PRICED, and will be a GREAT BUY for someone.
