Description
This listing is for 2 AUTHENTIC ORIGINAL Medals. This is an interesting pair. They are both from Greece under the Order of the Phoenix. The Order of the Phoenix is an Order (decoration) of Greece, established on May 13, 1926 by the republican government of the Second Hellenic Republic to replace the defunct Royal Order of George I. The Order was retained by the revived Monarchy after 1935, and continues to be awarded by the current Republic. The Order is bestowed by the Greek government to Greek citizens who have excelled in the arts and literature, science, public administration, shipping, commerce, and industry. It is also awarded to foreigners who have helped raise Greece's international prestige. The badge of the Order is a white-enameled cross with the Phoenix (symbolizing the rebirth of the Hellenic nation) at the centre. During the Monarchy (1935-1974) the letters were removed and the badge was topped by a crown, while the badge's reverse side featured the monogram of the reigning monarch. The breast badge has the cipher of King George II and was issued up to 1949, the king having died in 1947. After 1949, the award bears the cipher of his successor, King Paul. So that means that the breast badge is from between 1935 and 1949. The badge still has its orange ribbon with black edges WHICH IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION! The star of the Order is a silver eight-pointed star with straight rays, with the phoenix at the centre; during the Monarchy it was topped by a crown. The back of the star has an insignia which reads "Spink & Son LTD 5, 6, & 7 King St. St. James London. est. 1772. Medalists to the late King George VI". King George VI (of Great Britain) died in 1952 and the star by Spink is thus after that date and therefore does not correspond to the breast badge. So that means that the Star is from the mid 1950's . These two medals DO NOT come with the cases!!! They are both in EXCELLENT condition. Even though this item has a reserve i will most likely take the highest bidders offer even if it does not meet my reserve price. I made the reserve high enough to protect myself. But this does not mean that the highest bidder will automatically win this item. If the highest bid is well under the value for which my research thinks is fair than i will not sell the item to you. International bidders please read:: All my research indicates that Global Express Guaranteed (GXG) is the best, and most expensive, shipping option. 1-3 day delivery to 190 countries, Tracking availible, Free $100 USD insurance, additional insurace availible for a small fee, and lowest price among competitors. The "mid grade" shipping option is Priority mail international flat rate box. 6-10 day on average delivery, tracking to major destinations, insurance availible for a fee, and limited indemnity coverage provided at no extra charge. The cheapest, and not reccomended, shipping is 1st class mail international package. shipping time varies 15-45 days is the average. no tracking or delivery confirmation, limited insurance. IF YOU CHOOSE TO DO THIS OPTION YOU ARE TAKING ALOT OF RISK WITH AN EXPENSIVE ITEM. Please check with USPS calculator to see specific shipping to your arae of the world. My zip code is 22312. Once a winner is determined i will package this item, take it to the post office and get them to print me out a FULL list of options and Rates for the winners address. Regards- SeanOn Jul-02-08 at 14:45:54 PDT, seller added the following information:RESERVE PRICE HAS BEEN DROPPED!!!! Due to all the interest and many emails i am dropping the reserve price down to $901 USD, just one U.S. Dollar above the highest bid. I am doing this to stamp out any concern about the highest bidder not getting these medals outright. Thank you, all of you, for your continued interest. Regards- Sean
