Description
This bronze medal is 68 mm (2.67") in diameter, weights around 4 oz. and was issued in 1955 to commemorate the completion of France's northeastern railways electrification. Both faces are by French sculptor Paul Belmondo, whose signature appears on both faces,. the edge is smooth except for "Bronze" engraved. One face displays an electric locomotive pulling a train and passing factory smokestacks. The text says: "Societe Nationale des Chemins de Fer Francais - Electrification Nord-Est, 25000 Volts 50 Hz" The other side shows a coal stoker and an electrical engineer shaking hands on the track's side, passing the relay. The text says "Juin 1955" and "Les trains les plus lourds sous la catenaire la plus legere" (The heaviest trains under the lightest power line). The condition is excellent, with a few very small spots which can be cleaned.
