Description This is a very attractive and very rare Civil War Patriotic Token. The 54/430e has the liberty facing left bust and the simple "Penny Saved/Penny Earned" Ben Franklin motto on the reverse. The R7 could be silver although it seems much more likely a light weight alloy. the strike is nice but the planchet appears to have been a bit too soft for the die set up. The tokens were probably set up for a harder copper planchet and essentially "hit" this metal too hard. It is a nice BU and there are some die cuds as well as the start of a clip at about 6:00 that may not be visible in the scan. Overall this is a quite beautiful simple token, uncirculated, and a real study in how minting was done in the Civil War years. A real gem and a real rarity. R7 but a unique piece.
