Exceedingly Rare Vermont Treasury Note Signed by Ira Allen. £7, PASS-CO Graded EF-45 SPQ <   Remarkably pristeen rare Vermont Treadurer's Note, dated September 22, 1783, with the following on its face: "The State of VERMONT acknowledge themselves indebted to Mr. Silas Child the Sum of Seven pounds Lawful Money, Whici I Profmfe in behalf of laid STATE to pay the faid Mr. Silas Child or Poffeffor on demand; with intereft at Six per Cent per Annum: Sain Intereft to be paid in hard Money annually, if demanded, by Virtur of an Act of Affembly, Paffed as Windsor, February, 1783. Witnefs, I. Allen (signature) Treafurer." Superior Paper Quality Rating - one of a kind significant historical note. I Ira Allen (April 21, 1751-January 7, 1814) was one of the founders of Vermont and leaders of the Green Mountain Boys; he was born in Cornwall, Connecticut and was the brother of Ethan Allen. He was a member of the Vermont Legislature in 1776-1777. Allen designed the Great Seal of Vermont and the seal of the University of Vermont. In 1780 he presented to the Legislature a memorial for the establishment of the University of Vermont. He contributed money and a fifty-acre (20 ha) site at Burlington. He was called the ""Metternich of Vermont"" and the ""Father of the University of Vermont.""He went to France in 1795 and bought 20,000 muskets and 24 cannon for Irish rebels and sought French army intervention for seizing Canada to create an independent republic called United Columbia.
