Description
Exceedingly Rare October 1, 1748 Maryland Note - PASS-CO Graded Very Fine-20 <   This is a whole and complete, solid appearing note of this exceedingly rare, early Maryland currency issue.  Uniface in design, it has been completely backed long ago, likely around 1913 as this note was once owned by F.C.C. Boyd and has pencil notations (likely his) on that thin card backing.  There is a very large top sheet margin, the other three remain full, as issued. The text remains mostly bold black with light, even brown signatures and serial number present, with  some expert scattered conservation.  The words “New Bill” being written in bold brown ink and remains very sharp and distinct.  Signers include; Charles Hamond, Richard Gordon and George Steuart.  Less than a handful of notes are thought to exist from this entire third Maryland issue.  In Eric P. Newman’s, “The Early Paper Money of America” notes of this issue are not priced in any grade, due to their extreme rarity.  An important opportunity for Maryland, Colonial currency and rarity specialists, as it is certainly missing from virtually every collection.   PASS-CO Grading Service is the industry standard for Grading and Authenticating Currency, Documents, Autographs and Historical Photographs.
