Description
This CHOICE original January 15, 1865 uncirculated $5 note from the State of Georgia is as nice as you will find for your collection. It is a GEM specimen! Most of these notes are cut with some of the border line missing or in circulated condition. This note was issued from Milledgeville, GA, March 31, 1865 shortly before General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Grant on April 9th. The center vignette of ”James Edward Oglethorpe” founder of the state. This series had a treasury seal stamp in black on the back of the note to authenticate it’s issue. Note was printed by Richard H. Howell of Savannah. At the bottom center it has the Georgia Coat of Arms clearly visible. Serial number 652 and all are plate letter “A” . This has become a very hard note to locate as only 4000 believed to have been issued. Signed by T.J. Bloodworth for the Comptroller General and S.J. Howard for the Treasurer. The note is hand signed, and numbered. It measures approximately 7 inches by 2.85 inches in overall size.
