Description
Very hard to find, 1992 Canadian Mint 20 dollar aviation coin. This is The Curtiss JN4 (Can) coin in case and box with certificate of authenticity. Celebrating powered flight in Canada: The first 50 years. This is the 6th in a 10 coin series, this coin has a limited mintage of 50,000 world wide. The coin contains 93.2% silver and 7.5% copper and features a 24 Kt. gold covered cameo. Its nominal value is $20 Canada. It weighs 31.103 grams (one Troy ounce) and its diameter is 38 mm. The Curtiss JN4 (Can) formally referred to as the Canuck, was the first mass produced aircraft in Canada and played an important role in the Canadian training program during WWI. The design of artist George Velinger on the revers of the coin depicts a Curtiss JN4( Can) flying over Camp Borden, Ontario. Shown on the gold cameo is the portrait of Sir Frank Wilton Baillie, President of Canadian Aeroplanes Ltd. the most efficient aircraft manufacturer in North America during WWI.
