Description
Up for auction is an EXTREMELY RARE, KEY DATE Canadian 1889 SILVER QUARTER DOLLAR/25c PIECE, in F-12/15 condition overall (please see scans and judge for yourself, I'm sure you'll agree). Minted almost 120 years ago, this Victorian Era coin is in great shape and would make an IDEAL addition to any higher valued Canadian coin collection. Finding this coin in ANY condition is hard enough, but to find a 1889 quarter dollar in a condition where the date, denomination, and other lettering is clearly and boldly visible, is exceptionally difficult. The vast majority of 1889 quarters (if and when avaiable) are worn down to such a point where they are almost beyond recognition and are available for between $80 and $125. If you do happen to find one in a higher grade, it will most likely be upwards of $400-$500, or more.   This auction starts at 1 CENT with NO RESERVE; the highest bidder takes it despite the final end price!   The most current (2008) Charton Coin Catalogue shows the relative values of the 1889 Silver 25c piece in the corresponding conditions as follows: VG-8.....$250 F-12.....$650 VF-20.....$1,300 Again, please make the decision for yourself and bid accordingly...thx!   The average mintage for quarter dollars during the 1880s was around 428,000 coins; the 1889 quarter is very rare (as mentioned) with a mintage of just 66,340 examples ever being put into circulation (most of which have been destroyed or lost over time)..... This fact makes the 1889 quarter dollar THE RAREST PRODUCTION QUARTER IN CANADIAN NUMISMATIC HISTORY. Rarer, older date coins are excellent mid to long term investments, due to their ability to hedge inflation and accumulate value...With all the economic uncertainty,  scarcer, more desirable coins (silver, gold or otherwise) are being plucked out of the open market by the day for future investment and/or collections; they truly are a great way to invest if you have some cash lying around which you are looking to put to work/invest.   X-Post shipping with sig. verification (or registered shipping) within Canada is $9.25 Registered shipping to the USA is $9.90.   Money orders, cheques and Paypal (no e-cheques please) are accepted  for payment. Email money transfers and direct deposit bank transfers (or bank wires) are accepted as well. PLEASE BE SURE THAT ALL USPS MONEY ORDERS ARE OF THE PINK/ORANGE INTERNATIONAL KIND. Good Luck!
