Description
This Atocha grade two eight reale  was minted at the Potosi Mint  by the famed dyslexic assayer Juan Ximenez de Tapia, who made a lot of errors  and reversals in the minting of his coins. This coin has three errors on it. The first is the fairly common reversal of the lions and castles on the Crusader's Cross. The second, which is much rarer is the reversal of the P mintmark to the left of the shield of Phillip IIII. The third, which is very rare is the reversal of the top of the shield, with the left and right sides being transposed. To have three errors on one coin is also very rare.  Grade two coins sell at the museum for $1800 and up without a date, although recent scuttlebutt tells me that the prices there have been raised in the last couple of weeks.  Don't miss out on this coin. It is genuine, it is interesting, and it is historic. The coin is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Treasure Salvors.  For more information see atocha.com, atocha, 1715, reales, escudos, Mel Fisher, cobs, shipwreck, key west, and Check out my other items!Be sure to add me to your favorites list!
