Get Vendio Gallery - Now FREE! 69MM Christopher Columbus 1893 Expo Medal A O AMEIS   Description Large round bronze-like high relief medal, Christopher Columbus, 1893, 2.75 inches or 69 mm, signed by artist A. O. Ameis in the exergue, unmarked by any manufacturer but listed in references as George H. Benedict & Co., Chicago, in near excellent condition (there is a tiny hole in the base of the medal that indicates the medal may have been attached to a base at one time).  The medal was created for the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago and has an image of the administration building on the reverse.  This medal is catalog number 8 in the Marqusee Collection of American Medallic Art and catalog number 135 in the catalog of medals issued for the Columbian Exposition by Eglit (it is also illustrated on page 52).  It is very uncommon and highly desirable.  (Please note the color of the actual medal is a rich black and the color in the accompanying illustrations was distorted by using raking light to show details of the medal.)   NO RESERVE!
