Did you 'miss the boat' on this spectacular set in 2006? Well, if you did, here is your chance to catch the ride on some of the most rare and exclusive coins to come out of the US Mint in the last 90 years!!!! The mintages on these came in even lower then the beloved 'King' of platinum- the 2004 proof platinum set. Plus, nowadays on ebay and several other venues, you just don't see many full 4 coins sets, nor do you see them with the First Strike insert. These coins weren't resubmitted back and forth between PCGS and NGC and end up taking 4-5 grading attempts before landing in the traditional blue PCGS MS 69 insert. These were coins were graded once and only once by me. Could they be cracked out and resubmitted for MS 70 grade? Well maybe, but that's not what I'm about- that just isn't my game. If you want to buy them and try for the MS70, knock yourself out, but no promises on my end. I'm just saying I originally submitted them and did so only once and accepted the 69 grade without re-trying as several dealers and collectors often do and suggested that I do also (and didn't). Is the set priced a little high? Absolutely, I think they are worth it and will be worth more in the future, as MS69's, and this isn't a distressed sale either. I don't need to sell them. If you missed the boat on this edition, you missed out on the some of the lowest minate coins in the past 90 years. These are the new version of classics today without waiting 40 years to be discovered! In comparion to the 2007 year, based on the weekly sales reports, each denomination of the 2007 W version comes in 20% or more higher then the 06 W. PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service), the most respected third party grading service in the coin business, is continuing utilizing the "First Strike" tag or insert denoting that these coins were minted (issued) within the first 30 days of the new issue/calendar year. A few more tidbits about platinum: Platinum was only discovered in the 16th century and is at least 15 times rarer than gold and 150 times rarer than silver. Platinum gained 24% in 2002, 33% in 2003 and another 5% last year.
