This is for a loan dated February 17th 1864 and was engraved by J. Archer in Richmond, VA and printed by Evans & Cogswell of Columbia, S.C. The CSA Treasury Department stamp ( in red ) graces the upper right corner - However note that this corners are chewed in all 12 of these bonds. Each bond is flanked by Justice on the left and Liberty on the right. There is also the embossed muted seal of the Confederacy on the main portion. The bond is hand signed by the enterer, the recorder and the Register of the Treasury ( really the assistant, E. Apperson ). This is Criswell # 144 . There are 59 x 30 Dollar coupons on each of the 12 consecutive bonds. The margins seem full all around except for the chinking in the upper right, as mentioned above.
