Description
This is a beautiful, rare, 1989 Platinum Panda coin of China. It has been graded MS-68 by PCGS — THE HIGHEST GRADE EVER GIVEN BY PCGS FOR THIS DATE.The 1989 is also the sleeper coin of the four coin 1 oz. platinum Panda set. According to the Chinese Mint, there were 3,000 of these struck, but just try and find one! Over the last 3 years the 1989 appeared for auction only HALF as often as the 1987 and 1988 dates, which have mintages of just 2,000 coins. Where are the rest of the 1989s? It's a mystery; the one thing that is certain is that this date has been very, very tough to locate. In the last 12 months there have been just thirteen 1989s sold worldwide on eBay (which is about the only place you can find them). Highest eBay selling price is $3,050, thus far. Many platinum Pandas were removed from their original sealed capsules and pouches. This very often resulted in damage to the coin as it was handled. This is an opportunity to acquire a beautiful example and the highest known PCGS-graded 1989 1 oz. platinum Panda coin; there are no other MS-68s according to the PCGS population report. It is guaranteed for authenticity and grade by PCGS - the world's most trusted third party grading service. In fact, PCGS stands ready to repurchase the coin at the market value if they make an error. The photos are of the exact coin being sold. Prices of the smaller China platinum coins from the 1990s have started to soar already, with several recent sales of the little 1/10 and 1/20 oz. platinum coins at $1,200-$1,500. This 1989 coin contains 1 full ounce (over $2,000 worth) of platinum and is just as rare as the smaller coins. This 1989 is the most underrated coin in the entire 1 oz. series, comes up for sale infrequently and this is the top coin. Buyer to pay actual shipping and insurance charges (insurance is required). Please ask any questions before bidding. Bidders outside the US must use PayPal for payment. International shipments will be by registered mail and please be prepared to pay customs duties if any are due.
