Founder Bob McNamara sought to fill the void created when the US Mint ceased production of Commemorative Coinage in 1954. Each medal is struck in solid .925-Fine Sterling Silver, with a weight of 262 grains (some of the 1959 issues were struck with a weight of 192 grains, exactly the size and weight of a US Half Dollar). Sixty medals were issued commemorating historic events and anniversaries, with a few oversized medals issued 1961-1976 for such events as the Mercury-Telstar project, and deaths of JFK and Eisenhower. These Special Commemorative medals also weighed more than the standard series medals. Instead, we put the extra time and effort into capturing and providing some of the most accurate coin photos on eBay.  People do not get our coins and complain that the picture was not good.  In most cases, we hear that the coin is much nicer than the photo.  This is partially due to the fact that a quality photo will reveal defects not visible to the naked eye. We rarely, if ever, use a scanner because they provide extremely inaccurate, and often very deceptive, images.  If an item does not have a grade, it is usually because the coin is priced at a discount for some reason.  If a coin is discounted below its grade level, you can usually assume that it is weak for the grade.  Most of our items do not have descriptions.       In our experience, 99.99% of the problems that we have had on eBay have come from new or limited users or people who are new to coin buying.  eBay is a contractual atmosphere that requires both purchasers and sellers to abide by the terms of the sale.  IF YOU ARE NEW TO eBAY, PLEASE PROCEED WITH CAUTION!!! Knowledgeable dealers will not sell coins on eBay for less than their liquid wholesale price.  Beware of many of the "third world" grading services.  The majority of these are owned and operated by practicing coin dealers. Even if they have graded a coin MS67, it can still be an XF/AU or cleaned, counterfeit, repaired or damaged in some discrete way. Stick to the major grading services only and ALWAYS READ SALES, SHIPPING & RETURN POLICIES BEFORE YOU BUY!
