Description Finest Known 1972-D NGC MS67 Eisenhower 1$ ~ White, Flawless, and Tripled Die Obverse! Just 6 1972-D IKEs have achieved the MS67 grade at both NGC and PCGS combined. This stunning, pure white coin is, by far, the cleanest MS67 Eisenhower dollar we have ever handled. A crisp strike from freshly polished dies with intense, frosty luster booming from seemingly pristine surfaces. Amazingly smooth in hand, and pure white! An MS67 was auctioned at Heritage in January, 2006, realizing $6,325. And, as of May 30, 2008, a second MS67 was sold at Heritage for the same price, showing that this piece is still highly sought. But, neither of those Heritage auctions were for a Tripled Die Obverse coin!    The present coin is necessarily one of, if not the finest known example of the Coneca listed, Tripled Die Obverse variety. Noticeable die tripling is visible on the motto and date. In fact, this coin's comparatively early die state allows us to see a quadrupled serif on the 1 of the date under 10X magnification that is not visible on the other pieces we have examined, and which is not mentioned in the Coneca listings.  Again, rarely does such a superb example emerge for study.
