Description
I'm not pitching this as any sort of sob story. This story of this coin comes from a time when you could expect certain things from PCGS, which currently, they are not delivering. I bought this coin as an MS64RB for the price of $6800, fully believeing that it has a shot at 64RD. This belief stemmed from having seen many inferior MS64RDs in PCGS plastic. This coin has been cracked and resubmitted every time, never in the holder. This in itself says something. PCGS obviously likes the color and originality, or they would have sent it back in a bodybag. This coin dates from the Bowers and Merena February 2007 Auction where it sold for $6300. Here is a link: http://www.bowersandmerena.com/auctions/lot_detail.aspx?auctionno=13010&sessionno=1&catno=295&searchstring=&lotno=60 I am not letting this coin go without a reserve, in spite of my history of doing so. A much uglier example in the same plastic just sold at Heritage for $5750 on May 28. Obviously the PCGS pricesheet doesn't take PQ examples like this into account. My reserve price of $5000 is a steal, and I would buy it again for that price. In fact, my heart will absolutely sink if it sells for that price. Even with a BIN of $5500, you are getting a phenominal deal. I was happy with it when I bought it for $6800 in 64RB, and I know the new owner will be equally pleased AND THEN SOME. The first two pictures of this coin are about as unflattering as I can make this coin look. Even so, there is nothing on it that I would call "Brown." In the sunshine, this coin is as bright as any fully red Lincoln can be. The next two pictures are of the coin in previous holders. Rest assured, the coin you will receive is the same coin. The next two pictures of this coin were taken under good light with my old point-and-shoot when the coin was un-slabbed. The last two are of the Heritage auction example. I don't know about you, but the sheer quantity of flyspecks on that coin make me cringe. The winning bidder will receive the broken slab tags that I have retained.  Due to the premium being so high, I will allow returns on this item. You should like what you get no matter what when buying a coin like this. The only thing I will say is that nonrefundable shipping and eBay fees will be discounted from the return price.  Feel free to call me if you want to discuss this coin. I can be reached daily at 775-530-5187 I'm not sure if this coin will sell here, and that makes me feel just fine. I'm positive that having an extra 1955DDO lying around is a good thing. I will say one thing: YOU WILL NOT FIND ANOTHER 55 DDO IN THIS GRADE AS NICE AS THIS ONE. On Jul-03-08 at 09:32:33 PDT, seller added the following information:I realize now that the coin was slabbed when I took pictures 5 and 6. I do not have any pictures of the coin from when it was un-slabbed. I will try to get some current slab photos of the coin posted as well. Should be by this weekend. On Jul-04-08 at 15:40:32 PDT, seller added the following information:I HAVE HAD SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT PICTURES 7 AND 8. THESE ARE THE PICTURES FROM THE HERIATGE AUCTION SITE OF THE 63RB THAT SOLD LAST MONTH FOR $5750. THIS IS NOT MY COIN. I HAVE ONLY INCLUDED THESE PICTURES AS A COMPARISON. EVERY OTHER PICTURE IS OF THE COIN YOU ARE BIDDING ON, INCLUDING THE LAST PHOTO OF THE COIN LABELLED "CURRENT SLAB PHOTO." THANKS FOR YOUR BIDS, AND THANKS FOR LOOKING.
