He returned the U.S. an aviation hero, and promptly set off on another trip-- this one a three month nation-wide tour in his Spirit of St. Louis. Fellow flying enthusiast and friend Daniel Guggenheim helped sponsor the event, which drew headlines in all of the 48 states and 92 cities he visited. Lindbergh was cheered on while he gave speeches and rode in parades. His August 9th stop was in Indianapolis. This medal was produced for his reception there. It is 1 1/2" in diameter, with wonderfully detailed relief. The ribbon is blue silk, which has some normal age staining. Lindbergh's 1927 tour inspired the public to believe in the promise of air travel, and trust in those wonderful flying machines called airplanes. An immediate impact on air mail delivery was noted. This medal represents not only the 1920's American spirit, but a turning point in the history of aviation. For International shipping please request a SHIPPING QUOTEShipping and handling for this item is $6.95 plus additional insurance cost.
