Take a close look at the pictures and you will see this coin is truly amazing, with its original mint luster that spins cartwheels over the spectacular full red surfaces. Both sides are 100% fully struck, with razor sharp details.  There really are no notable blemishes anywhere on either side! The tiny mark on the obverse field is merely an alloy variation, NOT a contact mark or any other form of blemish.  There are no carbon spots to be found anywhere.  The color is a rich, warm red.  This is a serious coin for the serious collector who deserves a gem in their 1914-S slot.     This coin is the highlight piece of a huge collection of Lincolns I will be selling in the next few weeks, many in gem red. Photographing copper coins can be tricky, since the alloy can produce so many different tones from coin to coin. Viewing them can be quite a challenge too, since certain details or actual color can often be a mystery. I try to remove that guesswork. Unlike many other coin auctions you may see on eBay, I make every effort to produce crisp photographs with accurate color, details, and imperfections that are true to the coin, and I never hide anything with soft focus, deceptive lighting, small pictures, or other tricks which lead you to believe the coin may be nicer than it actually is. In fact, my pictures usually show such small imperfections not distracting to the naked eye, but which appear more significant in the enlarged photos. Take your time and look a each photo. They provide views from different angles, which is very important and gives you a much better idea of the coin's details than a single photo would. Buying Raw Coins: There are some beautiful raw coins out there for collectors to enjoy. Some people like them just like that, while others have interest in getting raw coins certified. If you are looking to buy raw coins for the purpose of having them certified, please be aware of the risk involved. In my experience only a small percentage of people try this, but I have heard back from buyers with both good news stories and bad news stories involving certification. Please note that if this coin is removed from its holder and sent away for certification, it cannot be returned for a refund. Grading is subjective, and there is a chance you may not get the results you are looking for from grading services. Although I want people to be happy with their purchases, the return policy does not cover certification attempts. Further, I will add that many old coins have been restored at one time or another. I accept this reality, and collect and sell raw coins knowing this. If you require some sort of guarantee of orginial color, etc., you should buy coins already certified by companies that offer such guarantees. I won’t trick you into buying cleaned coins. I am fed up with the number of sellers on eBay and at coin shows who refuse to mention when coins are cleaned. I think they bring down those of us who strive to be honest. If I see surface damage such as hairline scratches from cleaning, I then consider the coin cleaned and clearly state so in the description. If hairlines are not evident, wear is not evident, the original mint luster is there, and the coin’s color looks natural, I consider the coin to have no damage and in turn personally grade the coin to be in mint state, regardless of it’s history, known or unknown. I don’t go as far as all of the finicky color issues. If that’s something that really matters to you, just buy them certified by the big boys. As a side note on the topic of coloring, I am convinced that there are actually copper coins out there restored to full red that everyone thinks are original, including PCGS who in turn certifies them. This really throws a wrench into the matter, because once a coin is in a PCGS slab, people assume its color is completely original. I bet that gets you thinking! Those are my grading standards, with which you may agree or disagree, and you should bid or cease to bid accordingly. Although I assume this is not news to the seasoned collector, I mention all of this to hopefully shed light on the topic to anyone new to the hobby. I think these grading standards are shared by many sellers but rarely mentioned, and I hope speaking of this often hushed topic will be appreciated, and not scare anyone away.
