It also represents one of the greatest mysteries in the numismatic world. Only three examples exist, two sterling silver trial strikes and one lead strike. The new coin was designed in 1910 in honour of King George V, a new coining press had been purchased , the Royal Mint in London, England had produced the dies and at least two trial strikes were sent to Canada for approval. The goverenment of the day then decided "it is not the intention of the governement to give an order for this class of coin." Of the three known examples, only one is in private hands, which in 1998 sold for over one million dollars. Another is on display at the Currency Museum, Bank of Canada, in Ottawa, as the lead strike which, amazingly, didnt reapper until 1977 when it was found in a goverement vault.
