Description
IMPERIAL GERMAN 1000 MARK BANKNOTE This Magnificent Reichsbanknote was printed in 1910 and is a Beautiful Example of the European Engraver's Art!!! It is a LARGE Note: About 4.5 by 7.5 Inches! At the time, all of Europe was gearing up for War but just couldn't figure out who was going to Start It! It had been 100 Years since Napoleon's Imperial Troops had savaged much of Europe. Any wars fought since then had been limited in scope and fought pretty much along the same traditional lines. Even the Biggest of them - the 1870 Franco-Prussian War - gave no hint of what was soon to come. The Second German Empire (Reich) was proclaimed by Bismarck. The First Reich was that of Charlemagne and it lasted 1000 Years until it was dissolved by Napoleon in 1805. The horrors of the Third Reich still lay half a century in the future. Yet the groundwork was already laid. After years of siding with Germany against a Resurgent France, England now started making plans to destroy Germany. The French - having been humiliated in 1870 - were bent on "Revanche" (Revenge) and were only to happy to help. European War Leaders carefully studied the Campaigns of Grant, Lee and Jackson in America and hoped for such stunning success against each other. But they forgot one thing, or really two: Barbed Wire and Machine Guns. Even by 1865 traditional warfare was already outdated - witness the slaughter at Malvern Hill and Gettysburg. Yet since Generals always seem to base their plans on the Last War rather than the Next, Millions of Europeans looked forward to an Easy Victory: Hopes which were cruelly dashed in the Trenches of Flanders and the Killing Fields of Poland. But in 1910 all of Europe was still glorifying the idea of Empire and we see that arfully expressed on this Banknote. Standing on either side of the Imperial Eagle and the Crown of Charlemagne we see two personifications of "Germania": On the Right is an incarnation of Athena or Ceres with her Cornucopia, while on the Right the Allegorical Figure is holding a Long Spade - and sporting a very Classy Rastafarian Dreadlocks Do!!! This Rare and Historical Beauty is yours now for Well Below its Considerable Collector's Value. I have provided a High Resolution Scan. Both sides of the Banknote are depicted, so this is a sample of the one you will receive. All of them appear to me to be in Uncirculated Condition with no problems.
