Checking all records the past 10 years of all the major auction houses – Heritage, Bowers, Goldberg, Stacks…..there has never been a record of an 1882 $20 Double Eagle in Gem ULTRA/DCAM being offered. That is because the example being offered on this page is THE ONLY ONE, and it was recently acquired by us through private treaty. 59 examples were originally struck – a very low mintage issue, but only a mere dozen or so have survived the past 126 years, as only 12 examples appear to have been certified by NGC and PCGS combined. Of the 12 coins graded, here are the totals: NON-CAMEO PROOF: 1 in Proof 60, 1 in Proof 63, 1 in Proof 64, and 3 in Proof 65. CAMEO PROOF: 3 in Proof 64.
