Love Tokens are coins that were taken from circulation and engraved with something special, usually a person's initials. They are referred to as Love Tokens because most were made for a special occasion and presented as a gesture of affection. The Victorian Era marked the peak of popularity for using engraved coins as love tokens. [click to enlarge] The reverse of this coin has been smoothed down and engraved with the letters "M", "A" and "R", which can be formed in any order desired. This is beautiful piece with high-quality engraving work.
