RECUT MINTMARK, MAJOR DIE CRACKS, ORIGINAL' Description The New Orleans Mint (the first branch mint), struck a small amount of this vintage for circulation as it went into active production. This is the only obverse MintMark on circulation-grade Half Dollars until 1916. Look closely at the closeup scan and you can see the curved shadow of the original placement of the MintMark beneath the one used on this die. You can also see one of several serious die cracks on this coin, running through the date. The other closeup shows a deep crack on the reverse around the Legend and the eagle. Note the deep bronze toning...it certainly looks 169 years old to me, and there are no scratches, marks, dings, or such.
