Description 1833 O-115 HIGH R.5 Bust 50C ~ NCS VF (35) DETAILS: Damaged, Cleaned ~ Major Rarity! (bx237)   The second rarest die variety of the 15 known 1833 marriages, this piece has a lot of meat on it despite the damage, and should attract the attention of Bust half specialists as a High R.5 (R.5 means 31-75 known, High R.5 should be closer to 31). Most readily identified by a fork in the curl above the second 3 in the date and the unusual pair of dots between crossbars 4 and 5 on the reverse.   Struck from heavily worn dies with stars drawn sharply to the edge and strike weakness over the whole of the design, as made. Only light wear on the high points attests to the strong VF grade.   A series of round dents have been impressed into each side, at random. These depressions are deep, and while they do not penetrate, their reverse impression is seen on the opposite side on a couple of them. The coin is not bent, however! Very appealing russet orange patina over surfaces that were likely dipped long ago. No hairlines or scratches.
