Description
This is an attractive light-to-medium-toned 1798 bust dollar with darker perimeter toning of burnt orange and iridescent blue, that was late-1980's graded by ANACS as VF35 in the original light green small slab with a 6-digit serial number. By today's grading standards, I believe this coin to be a grade EF40 and plan to send it to PCGS for a possible cross-over and grade upgrade. As eBay is offering half-price listings today, I am listing it here in the meantime. There is quite a bit of remaining luster throughout the coin. 1798 dollars are priced on the dealer-to-dealer wholesale CDN greysheet at $4200 "bid" in EF-40, with dealer-to-dealer "ask" listed at $4650. This particular coin exhibits excellent detail and luster for a draped bust dollar. Observe the photos and decide for yourself. Note: The B12 (BB120) die variety never shows all 13 reverse stars...(source: "Early Silver Dollars 1794 to 1803" by Jules Reiver, 1999.)
