Description
You are bidding on a California Gold Token with the date 1852. I did some research on this before posting it to be sure of what it is. The original California gold coins were made from 1852-1882 during the gold rush. In the 1900s souvenir "gold" tokens were made that resemble the original gold coins. These are made out of Goldine metal and are the same shape (either round or octagonal), have the same obverse side (liberty head or indian head), and are the same denominations (quarter, half, or dollar). The tokens are different on the reverse side though and this helps you know the difference between an original and a souvenir token. The original coins say "cents", "dol", "Doll", or "Dollar" on the reverse side. The souvenir tokens say "1/4", "1/2", or "1" instead. The tokens have become a big collector's item. I am not an expert at grading coins and don't want to give any wrong information so I have tried to take detailed photos so you can decide on the quality of the coin. I can tell you that the date and all words are clear and easy to read. There is a very minimal amount of wear on the token. This item will be put into a "fold and staple" coin holder to protect it during shipping. It will ship first class for $2.00. Please check my other auctions by clicking on "view seller's other items" above. Check often as there will be much more to come. If you have any questions, please click "ask seller a question" above and I will respond as soon as possible.
