Description
THIS IS A VERY RARE 1860-S $3.00 ANACS SLABBED AU-50 GOLD INDIAN PRINCESS, KEY DATE ... THIS COIN TRENDS AT $9,000.00 !  MUST SELL This coin does have some minor details.  It was cleaned long ago, but not harshly and toning has returned.  It does not have the damage that comes from improper cleaning, and makes a correct appearance.  I couldn't tell that it was cleaned until the boys and girls at ANACS told me so (I'm sure that you know what I mean).  When ANACS says "DAMAGED" they are referring to the scratches....note the scratches in the photos on the reverse at 12:00.  However, the coin does NOT have the kind of damage that typically reduces value by 50% such as ex-jewelry, harsh cleaning, plugging, solder, repairs, etc, etc., etc.  It is very beautiful and the only problem is the scratches at 12:00 on the reverse.  These are very light surface scratches on empty areas of the field, which could be removed if you were so-inclined.   The $3.00 U.S. Gold Pieces were minted from 1854 through 1889.  Collectors know that, as a series, the $3.00 pieces are ALL rare coins, but a $3.00 Indian Princess with a Mint Mark like this one is exceptionally rare.  THE ONLY $3.00 PIECES WITH A MINT MARK ARE AS FOLLOWS:   (1) 1854 (Dalonega, Georgia); (2) 1854-O;  (3) 1855-S;  (4) 1856-S;  (5) 1857-S;  (6) 1860-S; and  (7) 1870-S.   There were only 7,000 1860-S coins ever made!  Out of the total series of 44 coins, 1860-S is a top-priced coin, trending at $9,000.00 for AU-50 (see 2009 Red Book).  This coin has unfortunately been cleaned, with minor damage as can be seen in the pictures.  THIS WEEK WE ARE PRICING THIS COIN TO MOVE IT FAST - AT $3,750.00.  THIS COIN IS SLABBED, AUTHENTICATED, GRADED AND WELL-PHOTOGRAPHED.  WE VALUE OUR 100% POSITIVE FEEDBACK, SO PLEASE DON'T BUY THIS COIN UNLESS YOU ARE A SOPHISTICATED PURCHASER OF DAMAGED $3.00 GOLD PIECES!  The 1860's series is one of the hardest to collect because,  throughout the 1960's (unlike the 1850's and 1870's), less than 10,000 coins were struck annually at each Mint.   Beginning about 1878 these coins were saved by speculators, so for the last 11 years of the series, from 1878 until the series ended in 1889, there are fairly numerous examples of quality-condition coins.  Compared to the series as a whole, the $3.00 Indian Princess coins from the 1860's were minted in low numbers, AND were not frequently kept by speculators, making this coin difficult to obtain in any grade.  For a wide selection of even more old, rare coins, please visit our EBAY store at J.W. World Coins...just click the tab on the right of this screen. AND SEE OUR VERY LIBERAL RETURN POLICY AND COUNTERFEIT COIN PROTECTION...THE BEST IN THE BUSINESS ! THANKS.
